Community Leaders Honored at the 34th Annual FDP Banquet

Tuesday, November 1, at the 34th annual Friends of the Dallas Police Awards Banquet, former Dallas Chief of Police David O. Brown, along with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Interim Chief of Police David Pughes and other community leaders honored 140 outstanding police officers and employees. Awards were given for the following categories: Medal of Valor, Meritorious Conduct, Police Commendation, Life Saving, Police Shield and Bureau awards.

Top award winners included John T. McCarthy Officer of the Year, Senior Corporal James Gentry of the Patrol Bureau and James Taylor Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, Senior Dispatcher Rene Lozano, Jr. of the Support Bureau.

Marvin R. Bullard Supervisor of the Year Award was presented to Sergeant Barry W. Ragsdale
Field Training Officer of the Year was presented to Senior Corporal Kimberly M. Crawford
Joe C. Jones Reserve Officer of the Year Award was presented to Reserve Lieutenant Vicki Colwell
Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year Award was presented to Officer J. Branden Helms

Families of our fallen officers received the Police Cross, given in memory of Dallas Police Department Sergeant Michael Smith, Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Officer Patricio Zamarripa and Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer Brent Thompson. The officers who received injuries on July 7 were also presented the Friends of Dallas Police Line of Duty Award including Dallas Police officers Sergeant Giovanni Wells, Officer Ivan Saldana, Officer Jorge Barrientos and Officer Gretchen Rocha; Dallas Area Rapid Transit officers Jesus Retana, Misty McBride and Lee Cannon; and El Centro Officers Corporal Bryan Shaw and Officer John Abbot.
